Come January, It's Decemberists New Album, Tour in North America and Europe



Modern day prog-rock band The Decemberists will hit the road in January for the first leg of their 2011 North American Tour in support the band's upcoming Capitol Records album The King Is Dead, due January 18. 
The King Is DeadThe group will play 16 cities, kicking off the tour at New York’s Beacon Theater on January 25 and wrapping up with a hometown show at Portland’s Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall February 19. A limited pre-sale is already on at this Decemberists ticket site. The public sale begins Friday, November 19 at 10 a.m. ET.

Following the North American dates, the band will take off on a  European Tour from March 4-16, hitting cities that include Dublin, Glasgow, Amsterdam, and London. Pre-sales begin November 17 at 9 a.m. ET, with public tickets on sale November 19 at 9 a.m. ET. The King Is Dead will be released on Rough Trade Records in Europe January 17.
The Decemberists perform the new album’s lead single “Down by the Water” with special guest Gillian Welch on Conan O’Brien’s new TBS show Conan Thursday, November 18. The song is now available digitally. Pre-order the album starting November 22 at Decemberists.com.
Following up the 2009 song-cycle The Hazards of LoveThe King Is Dead is said to be a more traditional song collection and features Welch on seven tracks as well as R.E.M. guitarist Peter Buck on three tracks. Tucker Martine, who also helmed Hazards, produced the set. “Down by the Water” is now available digitally; pre-order the album, starting November 22 at Decemberists.com.
