New Jazz Classics Reissues From Concord

Concord Music Group will release five new titles in its Original Jazz Classics Remasters series from Miles Davis with Sonny Rollins, Wes Montgomery, Chet Baker, Bill Evans Trio and Vince Guaraldi Trio September 28.
The five albums are:
•    Vince Guaraldi Trio: Jazz Impressions of Black Orpheus

•    Miles Davis featuring Sonny Rollins: Dig

•    Wes Montgomery: Boss Guitar

•    Chet Baker Sings: It Could Happen to You

•    Bill Evans Trio: Waltz for Debby

The Jazz Classics Remasters series aunched in March 2010. All releases are enhanced with 24-bit remastering by Joe Tarantino, along with new liner notes for some of the most landmark jazz albums over the past several decades 
“Like the previous titles in the series, these are all-time classic recordings by some of the most legendary artists in the history of jazz,” said Nick Phillips, Vice President of Catalog and Jazz A&R at Concord Music Group and producer of the series in a statement.  “Anyone looking to build a collection of timeless, essential jazz recordings could begin by simply selecting titles at random from the Original Jazz Classics Remasters series.  Their collection would be off to a terrific start.”

'Genius of Miles Davis' : 43 CDs in a Trumpet Case

The Genius of Miles Davis, a 43-CD set packaged in a trumpet case will be released on September 14. The 21-pound (!) "box" is set not available at standard retail and available exclusively through GeniusOfMilesDavis.com for $1199.00 and can be pre-ordered for a September 14, 2010 delivery date

The massive package collects all right Miles Davis box sets released between 1996 and 2007 inside an individually-numbered, full-size trumpet case (21½” x 11” x 8”), with extras that include a replica of Davis’ custom-made ‘Gustat’ Heim model 2 trumpet mouthpiece, one os his previously unseen lithograph and an exclusive t-shirt that says, “I can’t play like anyone else, I can’t fight like anyone else, I can’t do ANYTHING like anyone else.  I’m just myself.” – Miles Davis.

 Several of the original box sets have sold out over the years, and have been re-manufactured especially for the limited-edition run of 2,000 copies of Genius.

Miles collectors should note that the hefty set does not include the various Columbia/Legacy live performance multi-CD box sets, such as The Complete Live at the Plugged Nickel 1965, released in 1995; or The Cellar Door Sessions 1970, released in 2005.
Miles Davis signed with Columbia Records  in 1955.  His albums were gathered together for the first time last year as The Complete Miles Davis Columbia Album Collection.  A functional chest with removable lid contained 52 single and double album titles (70 CDs of music in total), each packaged in a mini-LP CD cardboard replica of the original jacket, with original artwork and spine.
