Ray Charles 'Undiscovered Masters' Coming Oct. 26 from Concord

Concord Records will release a Ray Charles collection, Rare Genius: The Undiscovered Masters October 26, featuring previously unheard recordings, including a duet with Johnny Cash.
Rare Genius: The Undiscovered MastersThe album draws from some four decades of demos and other vault material, ten numbers spanning genres of R&B/soul, pop, country and gospel as Charles so often did. The opener, "Love’s Gonna Bite You Back." dates back 20 years to a March 1980 session followed by the ballad "It Hurts to Be in Love."  It's heated gospel duet for Charles and Cash on Kris Kristofferson’s "Why Me, Lord?" found in the Sony vaults, recorded by legendary produce Billy Sherrill in Nashville in 1981.
Other tracks on the album include the soul-grounded "I Don’t Want No One But You," a bluesy cover of Hank Cochran’s country classic "A Little Bitty Tear" and a joyful Charles promising "I’m Gonna Keep on Singin'."  The trio of tunes were found in the vault at Charles’ R.P.M. International studios in Los Angeles. Some of the sparse recordings were fleshed out by an all-star array of players that include guitarists Keb' Mo' and George Doering, organist Bobby Sparks, trumpeter Gray Grant, trombonist Alan Kaplan, bassists Trey Henry and Chuck Berghofer, drummers Gregg Field and Ray Brinker and background vocalist Eric Benet.
Ray Charles would have turned 80 years old on September 23. His music lives on, even more so with this upcoming collection.
